Google has improved the Pixel 10a's display, boosting its peak brightness to 3,000 nits (from 2,700). Again, a small change on paper that's more noticeable during real-world usage. Barcelona has been generous with sunshine and the occasional overcast the past few days, but I've still been able to navigate diamond-shaped streets and random passages without squinting at my phone.
AI Dungeon. This is the big one, obviously, and the earliest. The first version was built on GPT-2 in December of 2019. It peaked in popularity in ‘21, and has gradually declined since then. In my view AI Dungeon was always just a lightweight wrapper around the raw text-prediction engine. Most of its appeal was based on the underlying novelty of text-generation per se. I don’t get the sense that “prompt an LLM to tell you an interactive story” is a promising new kind of game people are especially excited about.

Codenamed the MSF-1, the device now in the museum’s possession is the oldest known prototype of the console that never was, and according to the Texas-based NVM, likely the only one that still exists. Being a dev kit, it’s unsurprisingly not the most attractive thing to look at, and definitely not something you would guess is designed to play video games if you didn’t know any better.
